Understanding Complex And Technical Patterns On A Trading Chart ...

Currency price movements, when plotted on a chart, form distinctive patterns. In order to define a technical chart pattern common points or lines are connected over a period of time. High and low and closing prices the line of points connect these. These charts will help you predict the currency?s possible movement with some degree of certainty.

It takes time for a beginning forex trader to identify currency chart patterns. Understanding market movement and pattern formation cannot be learnt overnight.

New traders may detect pattern formations too early, due to the thrill while placing trades too early based on pattern cofirmation that has not been confirmed which might lead to incorrect trading signals. As a result, an objective identification should be carried out to trade only reliable chart patterns. Most trading professionals will use a tool such as a forex trendline expert advisor that not only confirms the pattern but also insert an order on breakout once pattern formation is verified.

The wedge, Head and Shoulders, Channels, Descending Triangle and Double top are the five most important trading technical chart patterns in the currency trading

Wedge.

There are two variations on the wedge pattern. Wedge patterns are reversals which wedge between a patterns ends. A bearish reversal pattern and a bullish reversal pattern indicate the raising and falling wedges respectively
A pattern called a wedge is formed by connecting the high and low points of the candlesticks. The slope in the wedge pattern chart is indicated by the trend line that rises higher than the falling slope and vice versa.

A pattern indicated by head and shoulders.

As the name implies, the trading technical chart pattern reflects a head flanked by shoulders on each side. The head and shoulder chart pattern is formed when a trend line forming tow troughs and three peaks connects the highs of the candlestick Smaller price peaks are indicated by shoulders while the bigger price peaks are indicated by head. The chart pattern called head and shoulders is a bearish one. When a small descending triangle starts appearing,a favorable break in occurs for sellers.

The Descending Triangle Chart Pattern

The lower highs form a sloping upper trendline and the lows form a lower horizontal trendline both of which converge and a descending triangle with a bearish pattern is formed At the lower horizontal trend line a bearish breakout occurs

The Channel

Channels may be caegorized as ascending, descending or horizontal. Irrespective of which channel is seen on the chart, channels are defined in the same way For the time being,channels are defined as technical ranges with prices that have traded in.
When the price range trends upwards upwards channels apepars, when the range trends downwards falling channels are apparent and when the range moves sidewats a horizontal channel is seen.

It is called double top

Double top, is viewed as a brearish reversal trading technical chart pattern depicted by one trough which is associated with two successive peaks. The height of the peaks is very similar. A temporary support is given by the trough and a horizontal line forms the neckline drawn at this point

With the chart patterns the head and shoulders and the double tops patterns also display reverse patterns referred to as the Reverse Head and Shoulders, with Double Bottom patterns. To reiterate, traders are signaled that it?s a good time for buying or selling a particular currency pair by these trading technical chart patterns. With a forex trendline ea, traders will be able to plan ahead when these early signs of pattern formation are discovered and trading position to be inserted on automation upon full pattern formation.

These five currency trading patterns should help any investor steer through the sometimes unpredictable waters of the market.

Trends of IT Outsourcing In the Philippines | Business 2 Community

The PSIA or the Philippines Software Industry Association announced that the country?s software outsourcing sector has been growing significantly over the past year. With business related ventures that were pursued in Japan, Australia and the USA, the country?s software outsourcing sector boast of an 11 percent increase in their employment rate.

One significant IT development that helped the Philippines? software industry grow and increase their employment rate, is the success of MMORPGs or the massive multi-player online role playing games here in the country. With its increased popularity, not only do students get inclined with these kinds of games but adults as well. Some find these games addictive, to the point that they can play the game for 24 hours straight. Because of the games? 24/7 following, it paved the way for new technologies to develop. Sadly, despite of new technologies, there would always be the problem of hacking and cheating especially with the popularity of these kinds of games. Game moderators are now employed in MMORPGs to help detect any unusual activities within the game. If a certain player does something catastrophic to the game, then the game moderators would immediately cancel his or her account, if they find that somebody is using cheat codes, they will automatically demote the gamer?s level and if in case there are instances of cyber bullying, then game moderators are there to prevent it from happening or from worsening it. Game moderators do not have an easy task. They should always be on a look out and make sure that everything within the game is fair and unbiased. Game moderation is a prerequisite to any gaming site, and with MMORPGs popularity in the Philippines, there are now providers in the country that offer game moderation services opening new employment opportunities.

This is a good example of the forecasted trend, evidently seen nowadays, which is the growing number of companies embarking on information technology outsourcing. The PSIA aims to get a good following on this trend and is positively hoping for ten new products to be developed in the next four years that will hit the international market as well. Moreover, since outsourcing in the Philippines is growing positively and competitively in the field, legal process outsourcing industries such as KPO consultants and business processing outsourcing in the Philippines have proven to be big businesses also. Business processing outsourcing companies in the Philippines have increased considerably due to the Philippines? highly skilled workers and high English proficiency. Moreover, due to this demand, BPOs or call centers opened new opportunities for IT professionals because of the need for an IT division in their companies. So, with the growth of business processing outsourcing companies in the Philippines, the information technology outsourcing companies have grown favourably as well.

Lastly, with the emergence of outsourcing businesses in the Philippines, together with their improved competence and efficiency to boast of, order values were up to almost a billion dollars making the Philippines a leading outsourcing target.

GoDaddy Web outage takes out small-business sites

(AP) ? Thousands and possibly millions of websites hosted by GoDaddy.com went down for several hours on Monday, causing trouble for the mainly small businesses that rely on the service.

A Twitter feed that claimed to be affiliated with the "Anonymous" hacker group said it was behind the outage, but this couldn't be confirmed. Another Twitter account, known to be associated with Anonymous, suggested the first one was just taking advantage of an outage it had nothing to do with.

GoDaddy spokeswoman Elizabeth Driscoll said the outage began shortly after 1 p.m. EDT. By around 5:50 p.m. EDT, the GoDaddy.com website and sites hosted by the company were back up and running. Driscoll had said the company was investigating the cause.

GoDaddy.com hosts more than 5 million websites, mostly for small businesses. Websites that were complaining on Twitter about outages included MixForSale.com, which sells accessories with Japanese animation themes, and YouWatch.org, a video-sharing site.

Catherine Grison, an interior designer in San Francisco who operates the site YourFrenchAccent.com, said she had to stop sending emails with her website link in them while the outage was ongoing. The site is where she displays her portfolio of work.

"If I have no visuals I have nothing left except the accent," said Grison, a native of Paris. She said she was already shopping around for another site host because she was unhappy with GoDaddy's customer service.

Earlier, Kenneth Borg, who works in a Long Beach, Calif., screen printing business, said fresnodogprints.com and two other sites were down. Their email addresses weren't working either.

"We run our entire business through websites and emails," Borg said.

The business even takes orders from its two physical stores through the Web, so clerks had to use their personal email addresses to send in orders to the printing shop, causing an administrative headache, Borg said.

Borg said he could empathize to some extent with the hacker, if one was involved. GoDaddy was a target for "hacktivists" early this year, when it supported a copyright bill, the Stop Online Piracy Act. Movie and music studios had backed the changes, but critics say they would result in censorship and discourage Internet innovation.

"I'm definitely one for upsetting the establishment in some cases, and I understand that if he's going after GoDaddy, he may have had many reasons for doing that," Borg said. "But I don't think he realized that he was affecting so many small businesses, and not just a major company."

How To De-Clutter Your Home Before Selling It

by author on Sunday, September 9th, 2012 | Comments Off

If you?re going to sell real estate, you have to be prepared for a wide range of eventualities. You need tips and techniques to help you face challenging situations when you are trying to sell your property. Read these tips to learn how to price and sell your real estate at a fair price for you.

Try to close the sale of your old house before you move into a new one. Paying for two houses can be a huge burden you might not be able to handle. You?ll need enough time to show the house and find a buyer.

It?s your asking price. The object here is to market to as large a market as possible, and this means setting an affordable price for the home.

Use the internet to advertise your rental properties or real estate agency on sites like Facebook and Twitter. You can post about real estate buying and home improvement tips, tweet about new properties for the area, and make special posts about upcoming promotions.

TIP! If you are going to put your home up for sale, make sure you clean really well outside your home and around your property. The amount of care you put into your yard will reflect on your entire home, so take care of anything that is overgrown, broken or dirty.

Paint your walls a neutral color so that the potential buyer can more easily picture themselves living in the home. Add some ambiance to the home by baking some cookies or lighting some candles. Creating an inviting and homey environment welcomes prospective buyers into the home.

Before you seriously begin a real estate investment, make sure you consider the real risks that you would be taking with a venture like that. A new investor is likely to learn the hard way that there are serious downsides to being new to the game. Take the time to learn about the business before you purchase any properties.

Wipe clean all counter tops and appliances. Clean the bathroom, and sweep and mop the floors. Make sure your children keep their toys put away. Make sure you pick up your dirty clothes. When your home is clean, it will accentuate the positive aspects of your home to potential buyers.

If you?re aiming to sell a property as quickly as you can, you should keep the home?s price 10% lower than the least expensive comparable property in the neighborhood. Buyers will be attracted by such a low price, and will flock to your house for a viewing.

TIP! You should always maintain a list of facts that prospective buyers may want to know about your home. You should compile a list of any renovations or remodeling that was done on the home, along with the contractors used to complete the work.

When selling a property, little things mean a lot. A fresh coat of paint is an inexpensive improvement to a room. Take a look around your property for things that aren?t aesthetically pleasing. You should also put away small appliances after you use them. While leaving the toaster out may be convenient, it will make your counter tops seem smaller and cluttered.

Do some improvements before you sell your home. Doing so can allow you to realize a greater financial return. One of the more worthwhile improvements is renovating an old kitchen. If your kitchen seems dated, you may wish to consider updating your appliances to enable your home to sell quickly at a higher sales price.

You will likely be prolonging the time it takes to sell your home if you overprice it in the first place. If you set your home?s price too high outside of other prices in your area, potential buyers won?t even stop to look. Do not get greedy; instead, assign a fair price to your home, and you will be rewarded with a quick sale.

Prune foliage when you?re getting your house ready to sell. Buyers will be able to see the house in its entirety. It will additionally create the impression of a home that has been nurtured and cared for. Rest assured, the first impression your potential buyer has is important. To optimize the importance of that first impression, pay particular attention to the outside area of the house and the yard.

TIP! Shine and polish all of your plumbing fixtures. Potential buyers may turn the water on and try flushing the toilet.

Buyers will notice an odor if you live with a pet. The smell of your own home may no longer bother you, but keen-nosed newcomers will likely pick up on it. Take measures to eliminate the odors, so buyers won?t be put off.

Use as many channels as necessary to find or market your real estate. Speaking to an agent, using the Internet, or looking yourself can help you sell your real estate. Consider all options available to you in order to maximize success.

The bathroom is a great room to spruce up when the house goes up for sale. Swap out the fixtures and lighting for newer, updated models. Aim for the atmosphere of a spa, so potential buyers can imagine themselves soaking in the tub or otherwise enjoying the space.

TIP! Choose one of the real estate agents who doesn?t give you the highest or lowest estimate on the value of your home. Agents who give you a high price may be tempting, but odds are, they?re trying to lure you in as a client and are giving you unrealistic expectations of the housing market.

You can make good money when it comes to real estate, but you have to know when you should be making the right moves. You also have to get a little lucky at the same time. When it comes to real estate, there is definitely a profitable market to it and you can come into a decent amount of cash if you know the right tips and tricks to get you

Animal Puzzle for Kids for iPhone and iPad review

Animal Puzzle for Kids - by Play Toddlers for iPhone and iPad is a fun app filled with up to 24 animal jigsaw puzzles. The puzzles are very simple and clearly targeted toward young children. You can choose the difficulty of the level (number of pieces) based on the skill of your child. Animal Puzzle is not only adorable, but a lot of fun and if you play with you kids, you can teach them about animals and the sounds they make at the same time!

The free version of Animal Puzzles comes with 7 puzzles (lion, zebra, alligator, hippo, giraffe, monkey, and pig). Each puzzle has three difficulty levels to choose from. Level one turns the picture into a 4 piece puzzle, level two uses 6 pieces, and the third level uses 9 pieces. While playing with Animal Puzzle, there is fun, bouncy music playing the background that every child is sure to love. My 2 year old daughter dances every time she hears it.

When you finish a puzzle, the leaves in the background will swing back and forth as if they are dancing and cheering you on. I think it would be great if the appropriate animal sound was played upon completion as well, but I could see how that might be difficult for animals like the crab and octopus.

For just $0.99, you can purchase 17 more puzzles to have a total of 24 puzzles. These puzzles include a donkey, sheep, cow, chicken, duck, snow leopard, reindeer, St. Bernard, seal, polar bear, penguin, crab, octopus, fish, whale, sea horse and starfish.

The good

  • Fun animal puzzles with fun music
  • Includes 7 puzzles for free
  • Can choose to have 4, 6, or 9 pieces in the puzzles
  • Purchase 17 more puzzles for only $0.99 for a total of 24 puzzles

The bad

  • No animal sounds

The conclusion

Animal Puzzle for Kids - by Play Toddlers is a fantastic little jigsaw puzzle app for young children. My favorite feature is actually the fact that it lacks a bunch of features. If a toddler apps has too many features, then the young user can easily get lost and accidentally perform functions they didn't mean too. The simplicity of Animal Puzzle makes it a perfect app for little learners.

Remote-control tech turns cockroaches into beasts of burden

11 hrs.

Scientists have outfitted a cockroach with a high-tech backpack that allows them to remotely control where it scurries.

While the concept may sound terrifying, anyone buried alive under rubble in an earthquake will shout for joy at the sight of one of these bugs. The shout will be relayed to rescue teams.

Search and rescue robots are already in use. Many were showcased during the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.?

But building practical, insect-sized robots able to squeeze through tightly packed rubble has proven difficult because of the large batteries needed to power them.

?Insects have a power process on them, a natural one,? Alper Bozkurt, an electrical engineer at North Carolina State University, explained to me Friday. ?We just needed to supply power for communication, which is not much.?

The research builds on studies that have attached radio tags and sensors to insects to learn how their muscles work. Bozkurt and colleagues took this a step further and stimulated their muscles.?

Their remote control system consists of two parts: antennae stimulators and another on their rear end.

Cockroaches use their antennae to feel their way around the environment. ?What we do is we insert tiny electrodes to the antennae and we send low-power pulses [to them],? Bozkurt said.

The pulse simulates the antenna feeling an obstacle, such as a wall, causing the cockroach to turn the other direction. Buzz the left antenna, the cockroach turns right; buzz the right one, the bug turns left.

Spurring the cockroaches to scurry forward comes via a sensor on their rear end called cerci ?which senses if there is a predator trying to reach from behind. When they feel something, they just go in the forward direction to run away from the predator,? Bozkurt explained.

?So, we use that to make the insect go forward and antenna electrodes to make it go left and right.?

In case all this shocking of cockroaches makes you feel sorry for the insects, Bozkurt said not to worry.?

?Insects do not have the concept of pain ? they have sensors that direct their reflexes, but they don?t have pain sensors,? he said.

So far, the team has successfully demonstrated the technology works. The video below shows a cockroach being?steered along a curvy line in a hallway.

Going forward, the team aims to create more real-life scenarios and work on communicating with the cockroaches under, for example, piles of rubble.

?Right now we have direct line-of-sight communication,? Bozkurt said. ?But when you are trying to save people, there will be a lot of material between our transmitter and the antenna on the insect.?

The electrical engineer likened his research to the domestication of horses, oxen and other so-called beasts of burden that were a boon to the development of ancient civilizations.

Until now ?we never thought of using insects for their muscle power,? he said.

What?s different today is we have the tools and biological know-how to control the cockroaches as well as a?use for a beast of burden that can only carry a payload of a couple of?grams.

?We are now living in the information era,? Bozkurt said. ?So the most important payload is the information itself and we can ? gather megabits of information on the insect?s backpack.?

Bozkurt and graduate Tahmid Latif presented a paper on the technology in August at the annual conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society.?

New Orleans eyes more levees after passing Isaac's test

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - Thanks to $14.6 billion spent on new flood defenses, roughly $17,400 per resident, Clara Carey and her husband could afford to sit tight in their home when Hurricane Isaac pushed toward New Orleans last week.

"We're senior citizens, and we always said if another Katrina came, we wouldn't come back," said Carey, who lost nearly everything in the flooding that followed the 2005 hurricane and took two years to restore her home in the Gentilly neighborhood.

Isaac would be different, not only because the Category 1 storm was weaker than Katrina, but also because multibillion-dollar work on levees by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has given the city stronger protection against hurricanes.

"We felt secure enough not to leave," Carey said.

But Isaac laid bare an uncomfortable truth about the new and improved New Orleans, a tale of two populations - one of neighborhoods that stayed dry behind a world-class system of levees and flood walls and another of suburban communities that were inundated when their older levees failed.

In the Lower Ninth Ward, where a 20-foot (6-meter) wall of water tore homes off their foundations during Katrina, the federal levees held up under Isaac.

But on the north and west of Lake Pontchartrain in towns like Slidell and LaPlace, and in Plaquemines Parish to the south, residents saw widespread flooding that claimed a few lives, spurred rescues from rooftops and caused a surprising amount of damage.

Just as Hurricane Katrina revealed New Orleans' shocking vulnerability to catastrophic flooding, Isaac has revived calls from local politicians to bolster the system to include areas outside the city's protective circle.

But in a post-recession era of U.S. budget-cutting and a fierce partisan divide over the size of government, expanding New Orleans' levees to include over 500,000 residents who now live outside them could be a tough sell.

"The good news is, the post-Katrina system, a $14.6 billion system the federal taxpayer paid for, performed very well," U.S. Senator David Vitter said. But flooding elsewhere "underscores that our work is not done by a long shot," he said.

The flooding sparked criticism in some communities that the new levees had actually caused problems for less-protected areas that lie outside the new system. The Army Corps is conducting a study of the effects of the new levees on the flooding and Vitter has called for an independent evaluation.

The head of the region's primary levee district last week dismissed claims that the new levees were linked to flooding.

"The modeling that the Corps did before they started constructing the system showed that the flood protection works they were about to build would have an insignificant impact" on surrounding areas, said Timothy Doody, chairman of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East.

Louisiana's other U.S. senator, Mary Landrieu, a proponent of levee building who called the system's performance during Isaac a "miracle," said the Army Corps is woefully under-funded.

"They cannot manage the water in the United States and protect people the way they need to with $2 billion of new construction money every year," Landrieu said. "Louisiana could use half of that ourselves."

Therein may lie the rub for future flood protection efforts in southeastern Louisiana.

While the Corps, with an authorization from Congress, undertook massive construction work after Katrina aimed at protecting New Orleans against the type of storm that has a 1 percent chance of occurring in any given year, it is unlikely that additional construction will occur at a similar pace.

COST-BENEFIT EQUATIONS

After Katrina, political pressure unleashed a groundswell of funding for Louisiana. The levee system cost about $17,400 for each of the 840,000 residents that the Army Corps says are protected in five parishes.

But with a rising call for budget-cutting by Republicans in the U.S. Congress, the well may be running dry.

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has made federal spending cuts a top priority. Representative Paul Ryan, Romney's running mate, is a budget hawk who cut about $10 billion in disaster aid from the budget passed by the House of Representatives.

That amount was restored in a bargaining session with the White House last summer.

"It's a tough and fallow period for getting more money," said Douglas Brinkley, a historian at Rice University in Houston who has written about Hurricane Katrina. "The challenge is that it's hard to convince people in Wisconsin or Nevada that we should be making Louisiana levees a national priority."

According to Joseph Suhayda, a coastal oceanographic consultant, Hurricane Katrina skewed long-held cost-benefit equations used by the Army Corps to evaluate potential levee projects for New Orleans.

Because the Corps had to acknowledge that its own engineering and construction failings contributed to Katrina's devastation, the U.S. Congress saw fit to suspend normal cost-analysis measures, Suhayda said.

"I think the government was compensating - maybe over compensating - for a performance deficit," Suhayda said.

Others object less to the dollars spent on the levees than to who provides them.

Chris Edwards, director of tax policy studies at the Cato Institute, likens Louisiana flood protection to a construction project in Boston that rerouted an interstate highway through a newly built 3-mile (5-km) tunnel, known as the "Big Dig."

Taxpayers nationwide paid for the project that finally wrapped up in 2007 at a cost of almost $15 billion.

"It's a huge amount of money spent to benefit people in an area of the country with a particular problem," Edwards said. "The problem is you have different people spending the money than the people who are being taxed to pay for the projects."

Edwards said that decisions by Congress to spend such large amounts in local areas is fundamentally unfair "because the money is allocated by politics" and not based on market demands.

"When you have a levee system in Louisiana that's 80 to 90 percent funded by taxpayers who live in other states, then policy makers have a hard time balancing costs and benefits," Edwards said.

(AP) ? The Isis Theatre hasn't changed much since it opened 86 years ago in southeast Nebraska, a stone's throw from the grain elevator and railroad tracks that cut through town.

But in the past few years, the movie industry has changed dramatically, and unless the Isis' owner comes up with $85,000 soon to pay for new digital equipment, residents of Crete, Neb., may have to drive 40 miles to Lincoln for a night at the movies.

It's a prospect that owner Thom Reeves doesn't want to ponder, but like thousands of small-theater operators across the country, he hasn't found a way out.

"This is my passion, to give back to the community," Reeves said. "I love this movie theater. I love what it does for the students I have employed there. We love our patrons. It's such a positive experience going on, and we're just a little sad this conversion is hitting us. How do we survive?"

For small-theater owners, the problem is the sudden switch from 35 mm film, an industry standard since about 1910, to digital ? a format that's cheaper for both studios and distributors, and doesn't scratch as traditional film will. The switch means theater owners must buy new projection equipment, computers and a sound system.

Film studio 20th Century Fox has said it will phase out 35 mm film altogether by the end of 2013, and other production companies are expected to follow suit. Traditional film is expected to vanish over the next few years, despite the upcoming U.S. release of "The Master," which was shot with the rare but much higher definition 70 mm film.

Big chains can afford the digital transition, which can be cheaper when buying in bulk for multiscreen theaters. But those who own smaller theaters with one or two screens typically must take out a bank loan to pay for the equipment.

A film industry program can refund up to 80 percent of the cost to theater owners, but the payments are made gradually through fees based on the number of movies shown. To qualify for the help, theaters must have certain profit levels and show a minimum number of films, leaving many small operators without help.

Some small, independent theaters created a cooperative, the Cinema Buying Group, to pool their resources and participate in the industry program, but the cooperative also required a review of each theater's financial strength and other factors. Many of the smallest theaters didn't qualify or were hesitant to join.

Patrick Corcoran, a spokesman for the National Association of Theatre Owners, said costs of converting to digital average around $70,000 per screen. About 60 percent of the nation's 5,750 theaters have switched to all-digital equipment, he said.

The switch to digital began with the 1999 release of "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace," and accelerated with such computer animated films as Disney's "Chicken Little" and the 2009 Hollywood blockbuster, "Avatar," Corcoran said.

"In some markets, it's going to be a tough climb," he said. "But if you want to be in business as a first-run movie theater, you have to go digital."

Reeves, 46, who also is an insurance manager, said he only paid about $100,000 for the entire Isis Theater and never intended to make money from the operation. A good month brings about a $600 profit, he said, and most of that is spent on electrical fixes, carpet cleaning and other maintenance.

In Onarga, Ill., a city of 1,300 about 80 miles south of Chicago, Randy Lizzio is struggling to save his 75-year-old, single-screen Onarga Theater.

Lizzio launched a fundraising drive, including a dinner and auction with a local Mexican restaurant in a park, but after five months he has raised just $8,500 of the $65,000 he needs.

"The window is just about closed for us," Lizzio said. "... It's really tough for single-screen, little theaters, even though we're historic."

At the Ohio Theatre, a two-screen operation tucked into a row of picturesque downtown buildings in Madison, Ind., owner Tony Ratcliff also hasn't been able to raise the $81,000 needed for a digital conversion.

Ratcliff said he's trying to raise $25,000 for a down payment on a bank loan this fall, but he is behind his goal and now has little more than $9,000. Unless he can install digital equipment by next year, the theater may have to close. Ratcliff and other theater owners are looking at other uses for the theater, such live events, or renting it out for community gatherings.

Ratcliff said traditional, 35 mm film has become scarce, making it harder for his theater and others to get the films they need to stay in business. He pointed to one movie, "Courageous," which was released Sept. 30. Ratcliff said he could have received a digital version of the film in November but ended up waiting until late January to receive it in 35 mm because fewer copies were available. Movies often go to larger theaters first.

"It's only going to get worse, especially for small-town theaters," Ratcliff said. "We're the low man on the totem pole."

Allen Hinkle closed his Bonham Theater in Fairbury, Neb., on Aug. 2, after he couldn't sell the operation or attract enough donations.

It would cost $110,000 to install digital equipment in the 86-year-old theater, a brick structure featuring four large arched windows only a half block from the county courthouse.

As the final day neared, Hinkle said parents in the southern Nebraska town of 4,000 asked him what their kids would do now for entertainment. Hinkle said he didn't know how to respond.

On a warm, breezy night last week at the Isis Theater in Crete, few people showed up to see the 7:15 p.m. screening of "Total Recall."

Among the few were Gene and Robin Mignogna, a couple from Pennsauken, N.J., who were visiting relatives. Gene Mignogna said he was taking his wife on a date to celebrate his 57th birthday.

He smiled as he glanced up at the red and white theater marque.

"There's a kind of nostalgia, coming to places like this," he said.

Re: INDIA/PAKISTAN: Remove the abnormal visa restrictions to ensure right to travel and trade

Dear respectful Prime Ministers,

I am William Nicholas Gomes, Human Rights Ambassador for Salem-News.com.

I am writing to express concern regarding the issue raised by Aman ki Asha , a campaign for peace between India and Pakistan, jointly initiated by the Jang Group of Pakistan and The Times of India Group on January 1, 2010.

They have lunched an online petition in http://www.change.org.

As you know the people of Indian and Pakistani descent living in other countries, demand the right to visit our families across the border in 'the other country' ? to see our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and, in some cases, our children. I demand the right to travel in the countries of our ancestors, to walk along coastlines and roads that represent our collective past, to seek and spread harmony across a subcontinent not divided by politics and propaganda. In this modern age of interdependence, it is a tragedy that the citizens of India and Pakistan are left peering over a border made indomitable and intimidating. There is little space for the hand of friendship to be extended across this border. We demand that this be changed.

I urge the governments of India and Pakistan to:

? Allow long-term visas, especially to people with families and spouses across the border and to applicants who meet the visa criteria;

? Allow visa on arrival to senior citizens and families, particularly children;

? Allow tourist visas between India and Pakistan;

? Make police reporting on arrival and departure the exception rather than the rule;

? Do away with the requirement of entry and exit from the same point, using the same mode of transport;

? Allow visas to be valid for the entire country (subject to reasonable restrictions) rather than one or two cities;

? Immediately reopen the Mumbai and Karachi consulates, and consider opening more consulates in major cities;

? Make student visas freely available;

? Curtail unnecessary paperwork;
? Ease visa restrictions for citizens of other countries who are of Indian or Pakistani descent, dual nationals, or expatriates from each other's countries.

In addition, we urge the governments to do away with restrictions that are completely outdated in today?s cyber world, and to:

? Allow more than two journalists each to be based in each other?s countries;

? Undo the ban on cell-phone roaming;
? Undo the ban on cross-border media, television and publications.

The authorities must refrain from trying to control the movements of their people, when their minds are free. It is mutual trust and genuine collaboration that will enable us to break from the past and repudiate the legacy of hatred and animosity. I can truly progress when ideas and art, business and tourism, and collaboration in the fields of health, sustainability and poverty alleviation are allowed to flourish and flow. Only then can our people and countries reach their full potential.

I look forward to your prompt action in this urgent matter, and stand ready to provide any further information or assistance you may require.

Yours sincerely,

William Nicholas Gomes

Ryan faces accuracy questions as he assails Obama

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) ? Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan defended himself Tuesday against lingering questions about the accuracy of some of his recent statements.

In interviews, Ryan disputed the notion that he misled voters in last week's convention speech while criticizing President Barack Obama's handling of debt reduction and the closure of a General Motors plant in his Wisconsin hometown. He also laughed off questions about why he understated his time in a marathon race by an hour.

Asked on NBC's "Today" whether he would agree that some of his statements have not always been accurate, he said, "No, not in the least, actually."

In an afternoon appearance in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the 42-year old GOP congressman took the offensive against Obama, even as Democrats opened their convention in Charlotte, N.C., where they will nominate the president for a second term. Ryan aimed his remarks at the nation's weak economic performance under Obama.

"President Obama, to be charitable, he came into office with a very difficult situation," Ryan told the crowd. "Here's the problem: He made things worse. He's run out of ideas. And he cannot run on his record. That's why he's relegated his campaign to a campaign based on the politics of envy and division, smear and fear."

But in a round of morning broadcast interviews, much of the attention was focused on Ryan's own remarks at last week's Republican convention in Tampa, Fla. In his acceptance speech there, he linked Obama to the closure of a General Motors plant in his Wisconsin hometown, a plant that actually closed before Obama took office.

"What they are trying to suggest is that I said that Barack Obama was responsible for a plan shutdown in Janesville. That is not what I was saying. Read the speech," Ryan said on the "Today" show. "What I was saying is the president ought to be held to account for his broken promises. After our plant was shut down he said that he would lead an effort to retool plants like the Janesville plant to get people back to work. It's still idle."

Ryan was also asked about his acceptance speech criticism of Obama for rejecting the recommendations of a bipartisan debt-reduction commission the president appointed. Ryan did not mention in his convention remarks that he was on that commission and voted against the same plan.

"I didn't think it actually fixed the problem of runaway health care entitlement spending. I authored and passed through the House an alternative," Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, told NBC. "The president didn't do that."

Both parties are often caught stretching the truth. But Ryan is facing near-daily accuracy questions just as many voters are still getting to know him, less than four weeks after Mitt Romney tapped him as his running mate.

Ryan, a former fitness instructor, recently told a radio host that he ran a marathon in less than three hours. Ryan released a statement correcting the record after Runner's World magazine found evidence he had completed one marathon, in 1990, and finished in just over four hours.

He was asked about his inaccurate recounting of his marathon time an interview that aired Tuesday on a Toledo, Ohio, television station.

"About my marathon you said?" Ryan laughed. "I literally thought that that was my time. It was 22 years ago. You forget sort of these things."

Ryan has been serving as the GOP ticket's leading aggressor in recent days. Romney is spending much of this week preparing privately for next month's presidential debates.

Campaign spokesman Michael Steel acknowledged that Ryan faced tough questions Tuesday morning, but suggested it was simply because it was some national news organizations' "first crack" at the Wisconsin congressman. Similar questions, however, have also followed Ryan this week in rounds of local interviews.

Meanwhile, Steel says that Ryan will not back down from any of his criticism of Obama's record.

"He's very prepared to answer questions about what he's said," Steel said.
